The Machias Historical Society is passionate about preserving and sharing our history.
The mission of the Society is to promote the understanding and enjoymentment of Machias history. To carry out this purpose, the Society may collect, preserve and exhibit historical resources; facilitate research into family, local, regional, and national history; provide educational opportunities that engage the public and make Machias area history accessible and meaningful; and undertake other activities as may serve the Society's purpose.
Please note the Machias Historical Society logo, designed by Joseph McBrine. The logo is composed of images depicting the livelihoods of our early settlers: The fish and anchor, the scythe and salt marsh grass, the ax, crosscut saw and lumber.
