Liberty Village
The Machias Historical Society has begun clearing land for Liberty Village project. The society has received a generous gift of approximately 94 acres on East Kennebec Road opening the door to an ambitious new preservation initiative. The land will serve as a foundation for a living history site.
Machias Liberty Village volunteers have begun preparing the site known as Machias Liberty Village. This transformative gift of land will allow these wonderful volunteers to create and bring to life the foundation for a living history site designed to celebrate the region’s colonial heritage while preserving a significant natural landmark on the property. Many hours have been spent clearing the land and building a scale model of Fort Foster, which will be the first building on site. These volunteers have intentions of building a spring house, smoke house, ice house, sugar shack, storage facility, fort foster, soldier's quarters, wood shop, barn, heritage orchard, gardens, stone walls, hiking trails. Eventually we hope to have a building for a classroom, gift shop, museum, lunch counter, etc.
Volunteers are learning to and are cutting timbers milled from the logs cut on site. We welcome volunteers that would like to be a part of this worthwhile project. Please check out our site and consider donating and or volunteering become a part of enriching our community.

Check the Calendar below for all the Machias Liberty Village catch one of our events, or if you are a volunteer check for proposed site work days, Planning Meetings etc.
